The 5th HMS Exeter should have been a Type
82 Bristol Class Destroyer, but her construction was not completed.
So the fifth and current HMS Exeter is a Type 42 Destroyer, the
lead ship of the second batch to be constructed. She gained a battle honour in the Falklands War of 1982. During the 1st Gulf War of 1991, she provided escort duties for a US Battleship and Mine Counter-measures units off the coast of Kuwait. In 1997 she began an extensive refit at Rosyth Dockyard, and rejoined the Fleet on 11-Sept-1998. The ship's motto is: Semper Fidelis - 'Always faithful'. Won the Battle Honours: Falkland Islands 1982 and Kuwait 1991.
