HMS Actaeon (1946) SL  (8th)

    
This the eighth ship to carry the name HMS Actaeon was a Modified Black Swan (1942), escort vessel (sloop).

Built by Thorneycroft, laid down 15-May-1944, launched 25-Jul-1945 and completed 24-Jul-1946.

On commissioning after the end of WW2, went to the South Atlantic, and remained there in the West Indies and South America areas.

Returned to the UK mid-1953 to be paid of into reserve.

Bought by the West German Bundesmarine as a training ship 11-Nov-1957.

After refitting, commissioned as FGS Hipper 09-Dec-1958. Listed for disposal 1964.
