This the first ship to carry the name HMS Venerable was a third rate, 74-gun ship-of-the-line.

Built by Perry of Blackwall, launched 19-Apr-1784, 174ft long, 48ft wide and of 1,716 tons builders measurement.

Wrecked 24-Nov-1804 off Torbay.

Won the battle Honours: Camperdown 1797 and Gut of Gibraltar 1801.
