This the fourth ship to carry the name HMS Terrible was a third rate, 74-gun, ship-of-the-line.

Built by Barnard of Harwich, launched 04-Sep-1762, 169ft long, 47ft wide and of 1,64 tons builders measurement.

Following damage received in actions with the French off Chesapeake Bay, burned 11-Sep-1781, as unseaworthy.

Won the Battle Honour: St. Vincent 1780.
