Wooden Screw Gunboat

    
This the third ship to carry the name HMS Opossum was an Albacore class, 4-gun, wooden screw gunboat.

Built by Wigram of Northam, laid down 10-Sep-1855, launched 28-Feb-1856 and completed 31-Aug-1856.

Took part in the Royal Fleet Review 1856.

Used as a hospital hulk from 1876, then a mooring vessel from 1891.

Renamed HMS Siren 1895.

Sold 1896 at Hong Kong.

Won the Battle Honour: China 1856-60.
