HMS Opossum (1945) SL  (5th)

    
This the fifth ship to carry the name HMS Opossum was a Modified Black Swan (1942), escort vessel (sloop).

Built by Denny, laid down 28-Jul-1943, launched 30-Nov-1944 and completed 16-Jun-1945.

On completion went to join the Pacific Fleet. Refitted at Sydney Mid-1946, and continued in the Far East Fleet until late 1947 when she returned to the UK to be put into reserve.

Returned to the Far East from 1951 to 1957, then went to the South American Station before returning to the UK 1959 to go into reserve for the last time.

Arrived at Plymouth 26-Apr-1960 for breaking up.

Won the Battle Honour: Korea 1952-53.
