This the thirteenth HMS Mermaid, was a single ship class of
frigate. Originally built for the Ghanaian Navy as the Black Star. The ship was cancelled when President Nkrumah was deposed. After several years at anchor, she was bought by the Royal Navy from the builders, Yarrow, in Mar-1972. Sold Apr-1977 to Malaya and renamed Hang Tuah.
