This the sixteenth ship to carry the name HMS Greyhound was a
G Class, destroyer. Built by Vickers Armstrong, laid down 20-Sep-1934, launched 15-Aug-1935, and commissioned 31-Jan-1936. At the start of WW2 was with the 1st Destroyer Flotilla in home waters. Took part in the Norwegian campaign. Then May-1940 the evacuations from Belgium and France. During this she was hit by shore gunfire in the engine room, but was able to reach Dover unaided. After repairs it was to the Mediterranean, with Gallant and Griffin. On 20-Oct-1940 still with Gallant and Griffin, she sank the Italian submarine Lafole. Was in action at Dakar Sep-1940 with the French ship L'Audacieux. Sank the Italian submarines Neghelli in the Central Mediterranean Jan-1941, and the Anfitrite off Crete 06-Mar-1941. Took part in the battle of Cape Matapan Mar-1941 Bombed and sunk in the Kithera Channel, Crete 22-May-1941. Won the Battle Honours: Atlantic 1939, Norway 1940, Dunkirk 1940, Spartivento 1940, Matapan 1941, Crete 1941, Libya 1941, Mediterranean 1941 and Malta Convoys 1941.
