HMS Thames (1888) CC  (6th)

    
This the sixth ship to carry the name HMS Thames was a 2nd Class Protected Cruiser.

Built at Pembroke Dockyard, laid down 14-Apr-1884, launched 03-Dec-1885 and completed 1888

On completion, went into reserve at Devonport 1888-1903.

Used as a Submarine Depot Ship at Portsmouth 1903-07, Sheerness 1907-14, Harwich 1914, Sheerness again 1914-17, then Portsmouth and Campbeltown 1917-19.

Paid of at Chatham 1919.

Sold to South Africa 1920, renamed General Botha and used as a training ship at the Cape.

Scuttled in Simon's bay 1947.
