HMS Repulse (1870) BB  (8th)

    
This the eighth ship to carry the name HMS Repulse and built as a class of one.

She was built at Woolwich Dockyard, laid down in Apr-1859, launched 25-Apr-1868 and completed in Jan-1870. The long construction because work was stopped for a number of years. 

After two years as a guardship she went to the Pacific station from 1872-77. Then she returned for refit after which she spent the remainder of her career as either a guardship or in Reserve. 

She was the only Royal Navy armoured ship ever to round Cape Horn under sail.

Paid off and sold 1889.
