This HMS Neptune was the sixth to carry the name.
She was built by Dudgeon of Poplar launched 10-Sep-1874 for the Brazilian Navy as Indepencia. Bought for the Royal Navy Mar-1878 and completed in Sep-1881. Her initial deployment was in the Mediterranean from 1881-85. A refit at home followed. After refit she served as a coastguard ship until 1893 when she went into Reserve. Sold 15-Sep-1903 and broken up in Germany.
