HMS Monarch (1869) BB  (4th)

    
This the fourth ship to carry the name HMS Monarch was a single ship class of battleship.

Built at Chatham Dockyard, laid down Jun-1866, launched 25-May-1868 and completed in Jun-1869.

She served in the Channel Fleet 1869-72. Then after a refit it was back to the Channel again before going to the Mediterranean from 1876-85. Took part in the bombardment of Alexandria in 1882.

Then it was back to the Channel Fleet  for a short time before being modernised in 1885-90.

She became a guardship in 1897, and in Mar-1904 was renamed Simoom to become a depot ship.

Sold 04-Apr-1905 for braking up at Garnham.

Won the Battle Honours: Alexandria 1882 and South Africa 1899-1900.
