This the second ship to carry the name HMS Janus was a fifth rate, 32-gun, ship.

Originally Dutch (Argo), captured 12-May-1796 by HMS Phoenix in the North Sea, 131ft long, 36ft wide and of 704 tons builders measurement. Armed with 6 x 24pdr carronades, 26 x 12pdr and 6 x 6pdr guns.

Used for harbour service from Jan-1798.

Sold 21-Feb-1811.
