HMS Inflexible (1881) BB  (4th)

This the fourth ship to carry the name HMS Inflexible was a battleship built as a Class of one during a time of experimentation and change.

She was built at Portsmouth Dockyard, laid down in Feb-1874, launched 27-Apr-1876 and completed in Oct-1881.

She went first to the Mediterranean from 1881-85, and was part of the force which bombarded Alexandria. She received some damage when hit by a shell during this.

A refit followed when her rig was reduced. Was in Reserve from 1885-90, when she returned to the Mediterranean until 1893.

The remainder of her career was as a guardship or in Reserve until sold 15-Sep-1903.

Won the Battle Honour: Alexandria 1882.
