This the third ship to carry the name HMS Centaur was a third rate, 74-gun ship-of-the-line.

Originally French, the Centaure, captured 18-Aug-1759 off Lagos. 175ft 6in long, 47ft 6in wide and of 1,739 tons builders measurement. Armed with 28 x 32pdr, 30 x 18pdr, and 16 x 9pdr guns.

Foundered off Newfoundland Banks, 21-Sep-1782.

Won the Battle Honours: Havana 1762, St. Kitts 1782 and The Saints 1782.
