This the fourth ship to carry the name HMS Captain was a third rate, 74-gun, ship-of-the-line, originally HMS Carnatic.

Built at Deptford Dockyard, launched 21-Jan-1783, 172ft long, 48ft wide and of 1,790 tons builders measurement.

Renamed HMS Captain 14-Jul-1815.

Broken up Sep-1825.
