This the first ship to carry the name HMS Ardent was a third rate, 64-gun, ship-of-the-line.

Built by Blaydes of Hull, launched 13-Aug-1764, 160ft long, 45ft wide and of 1,376 tons builders measurement.

Captured by the French 17-Aug-1779 off Plymouth.

Recaptured Apr-1782 and renamed HMS Tiger.

Sold Jun-1784.
