This the first ship to carry the name HMS Angler was a Cheerful class, 3 gun, wooden screw gunboat.

Built at Devonport Dockyard, laid down 04-Dec-1855, launched 08-Mar-1856 and completed 07-Apr-1856.

Took part in the Royal Fleet Review 1856.

Broken up Jan-1869.
