| The
Inglefield Class (1937) was a single ship class of destroyer leader. The
leader of the I Class (1937)
destroyer flotilla She was a repeat of HMS Hardy and completed to a design which gave the destroyer leader a slightly greater speed and armament than her flotilla ships. Similar to the concept of HMS Codrington. The RN destroyer flotilla organisation at the time called for a group of destroyers to be designed, ordered and built as a single group of eight ships. That group on completion formed a single destroyer flotilla. Which had one destroyer leader, whose Captain (D) would command the flotilla.
