Superb Class (1880) BB

HMS Superb was completed as a single ship class.

She was designed for the Turkish Government but not handed over because of the Russo-Turkish war, and was bought for the Royal Navy in 1878.

As she was designed for operations in the Mediterranean and Black Seas, she did not follow many of the British design practices. Her guns were disposed on the broadside, and she joined HMS Nelson and HMS Northampton of the Northampton Class (1878) as the last British broadside-armed ships.
