HMS Westminster (1994) FF  (2nd) 

    
This the second ship to carry the name HMS Westminster is the eighth of 16 Type 23 Duke Class (1990) Frigates.

Built by Swan Hunter Shipbuilders on the Tyne, laid down 18-jan-1991, launched 09-Feb-1992, completed 1993 and commissioned 13-May-1994

The ships motto is "For Nation and for Glory".

In 2004 Westminster underwent a year long major refit. When she was the first RN ship fitted with both a new Type 2087 sonar, together with a new torpedo defence system, the Surface Ship Torpedo Defence (SSTD). In addition navigation systems were upgraded and equipment fitted to allow her to operate the Merlin helicopter. 

She rejoined the Fleet 15-Feb-2005, to work up before being able to resume worldwide operations.

Took part in the Trafalgar 200 Fleet Review.

Late Mar-2011 took part in Operation Ellamy enforcing a UN armaments blockade against the Libyan Gaddafi regime.

In service Apr-2011.
