This the eighth ship to carry the name HMS Northumberland is one of 16 Type 23 Duke Class (1990) frigates.

Built by Swan Hunter, laid down 04-Apr-1991, launched 04-Apr-1992, completed May-1994 and commissioned 29-Sep-1994.

Refitted Jul-2004 to Jul-2005 at Rosyth.

In service Apr-2011.
