This the fifth ship to carry the name HMS Melpomene was a
second class cruiser. Originally
HMS Indefatigable,
renamed Melpomene, 11-Jan-1910. Built by London & Glasgow Co, launched 12-Mar-1891, 300ft long, 44ft wide and displacing 3,600 tons. Armed with 2 x 6in, 6 x 4.7in and 13 x 6pdr guns. Sold 07-Oct-1913.
