HMS Matchless (1942) DD  (2nd)

    
This the second ship to carry the name HMS Matchless was an M Class, destroyer.

Built by Stephen, laid down 14-Sep-1940, launched 04-Sep-1941 and commissioned 26-Feb-1942.

Spent most of her war service in the Arctic on Russian convoy duties.

Torpedoed and sank the crippled cruiser HMS Trinidad, May-1942.

Mid-1942 moved to the Mediterranean for Malta convoy escort work.

1943 to the Atlantic to join convoy support groups. At the end of 1943 in company with HMS Meteor saw action against the German ship Scharnhorst.

Continued for the rest of the war in arctic waters with the 3rd Destroyer Flotilla.

Sold to Turkey 16-Aug-1957 and renamed Kilicala Pasha.

Paid off 1970.

Won the Battle Honours: Arctic 1942-44, Malta Convoys 1942 and North Cape 1943.
