HMS Lapwing (1944) SL  (8th)

    
This the eighth ship to carry the name HMS Lapwing was a Modified Black Swan (1942), escort vessel (sloop).

Built by Scotts, laid down 17-Dec-1941, launched16-Jul-1943 and completed 21-Mar-1944.

On completion conducted operations for the Normandy landings until Sep-1944. After which she moved to convoy escort on the Russian route.

On 20-Mar-1945 was torpedoed and sunk at the Kola Inlet,  by U-716.

Won the Battle Honours: Normandy 1944, North Sea 1944 and Arctic 1944-45.
