HMS Jupiter (1939) DD  (5th)

    
This the fifth ship to carry the name HMS Jupiter was a J Class, destroyer.

Built by Yarrow, laid down 20-Sep-1937, launched 27-Oct-1938, and commissioned 16-Jun-1939.

On commissioning joined the 7th Destroyer Flotilla based on the Humber. Which at the start of WW2 was renumbered the 5th Flotilla.

07-Dec-1939, was in action against German destroyers Lody and Geise off Cromer.

Took part in the Norwegian campaign. Then went to Plymouth for patrols in the English Channel.

To the Mediterranean 1940.

Nov-1941 to Colombo as escort for Prince of Wales and Repulse.

Sank the Japanese submarine I60 off Krakatoa 17-Jan-1942.

In the Battle of the Java Sea, struck a mine and sank the next day 27-Feb-1942.

Won the Battle Honours: Mediterranean 1941 and Malaya 1942.
