HMS Hurricane (1940) DD  (1st)

    
This the only ship to carry the name HMS Hurricane was an H Class (1940) destroyer.

Built by Vickers Armstrong of Barrow, for the Brazilian Navy (Japarua), laid down 30-Jun-1938, bought 04-Sep-1939, launched 29-Sep-1939, and commissioned 21-Jun-1940.

On the night of 7/8-May-1941 bombed and sank during an air raid on Liverpool.

Later raised, repaired and returned to service Jan-1943.

Served in the North Atlantic on escort work.

Sunk 24-Dec-1943.

Won the Battle Honours: Atlantic 1940-44 and Biscay 1943.
