This the first ship to carry the name HMS Gladiator was a fifth rate, 44-gun, ship.

Built by Adams of Buckler's Hard, launched 20-Jan-1783, 140ft long, 38ft wide and of 882 tons builders measurement.

Served her entire service as a harbour service vessel.

Broken up Aug-1818.
