This the first ship to carry the name HMS Donegal was a third rate, 76-gun, ship-of-the-line.

Originally French (Hoche), captured 12-Oct-1798 by a squadron off NW Ireland, 182ft long, 49ft 6in wide and of 1,901 tons builders measurement.

Broken up May-1845 at Portsmouth.

Won the Battle Honours: San Domingo 1806 and Basque Roads 1809.
