Gunvessel 14-gun

    
This the first ship to carry the name HMS Contest was a 14-gun, gunvessel, (also known as Gunboat No 16).

Built by Barnard of Deptford, launched 11-Apr-1797, 75ft long, 22ft wide and of 159 tons builders measurement. Armed with 4 x 24pdr guns and 10 x 18pdr carronades.

Broken up Oct-1799.
