HMS Avenger (1779) (1st)

This the first ship to carry the name HMS Avenger was an 8-gun
sloop. Originally HMS Lucifer an 8-gun, fireship. Built by Randall of Rotherhithe and bought while on the stocks. Launched 09-Oct-1778, 98ft long, 28ft 6in wide and of 339 tons builders measurement. Renamed HMS Avenger 13-Dec-1778. Sold 12-Jun-1783 at New York.
