This the first ship to carry the name HMS Arethusa was a fifth rate, 32-gun, ship.

Originally French (Arethuse), captured 18-May-1759, 132ft long, 34ft 6in wide and of 700 tons builders measurement.

Wrecked 19-Mar-1779 off Ushant.
