| Exmouth Class (1934) DD | |
| The
Exmouth Class was a two ship Class of Destroyer Leaders. HMS Exmouth was the destroyer leader for the 1931 programme of destroyers the E Class (1934) DD. HMS Faulknor was the destroyer leader for the 1932 programme of destroyers the F Class (1935) DD. They were completed to a design which gave the destroyer leader a slightly greater speed and armament than her flotilla ships. Similar to the concept of HMS Codrington. The RN destroyer flotilla organisation at the time called for a group of destroyers to be designed, ordered and built as a single group of eight ships. That group on completion formed a single destroyer flotilla. Which had one destroyer leader, whose Captain (D) would command the flotilla.
