Devonshire Class (1905) CC

The six ships of the Devonshire Class were Armoured Cruisers. part of the 1901 construction programme.

They were intended to correct perceived shortcomings in the Monmouth Class (1903)

The increase of 1,000 tons displacement with a slightly reduced power meant a reduction in speed of ¾ of a knot.

Two of the Monmouth's 6in guns were replaced by 7.5in. and they were considered better all round ships. All the Devonshire's exceeded 23kts on trials but they become indifferent steamers as time passed.
