This the first ship to carry the name HMS Sybille was a fifth rate, 44-gun, ship.

Originally French, captured 17-Jun-1794 by HMS Romney in the Mediterranean. 154ft long, 40ft wide and of 1,091 tons builders measurement. Armed with 28 x 18pdr and 16 x 9pdr guns.

Used for harbour service from Jul-1831.

Sold 07-Aug-1833.

Won the Battle Honour: 'Forte' 1799.
