HMS Royal Oak (1916) BB  (7th)

    
This the seventh ship to carry the name HMS Royal Oak was one of five Royal Sovereign Class battleships.

Built at Devonport Dockyard, launched 17-Nov-1914 and completed  May-1916.

She joined the Grand Fleet May 1916, just in time to take part in Jutland. No damage.

After WW1 was with the Atlantic Fleet from 1919-22 and 1924-26. With a refit in between. Then to the Mediterranean Fleet from 1926-34, followed by a refit. Home Fleet from 1935.

On the night of 13/14-Oct-1939 while at anchor in Scapa Flow was torpedoed by U-47 (Lt Gunther Prien), and sank with large loss of life. 

Won the Battle Honour: Jutland 1916.
