HMS Richmond (1996) FF  (7th) 

    
This the seventh and current HMS Richmond is the 10th of 16 Type 23 Duke Class (1990) Frigates to join the Royal Navy. 

Built at Swan Hunter Shipbuilders on the Tyne laid down 16-Feb-1992, launched 06-Apr-1993, and commissioned 22-Jun-1995.

Her first deployment was to the Far East as part of the Ocean Wave 97 Task Group. Which included a visit to Vladivostock the home of the Russian Pacific Fleet. This was the first time a British warship had visited that port in 111 years.

1998 saw involvement in two major NATO exercises, a visit to the USA. 1999 was mainly taken up with deployment to the South Atlantic, and ended with a period of overhaul and refit.

In May-2000 she rejoined the Fleet and deployed to the Mediterranean in 2001. Then it was out to the East coast USA and the Caribbean, and a minor refit in 2002. 

February 2003 saw her deployed to the Gulf and action in the second Gulf War against Iraq, when Richmond was involved with various Naval Gunfire Support of troops ashore. She remained in the Gulf for a time after hostilities ended and returned to the UK in Aug-2003.

Service in Home waters followed and she is due for a refit in 2005.
