HMS Quadrant (1942) DD  (1st)

    
This the only ship to carry the name HMS Quadrant was a Q Class, destroyer.

Built by Hawthorn Leslie, laid down 24-Sep-1940, launched 28-Feb-1942, and commissioned 26-Nov-1942.

On commissioning was Royal Australian Navy Manned but administered by the Royal Navy, and served in the Mediterranean.

Mar-1944 as part of the 4th Destroyer Flotilla went to the Eastern Fleet in the Indian Ocean and took part in carrier raids against Japanese held territory. At the end of 1944 went to Australia as part of the British Pacific Fleet, then from early 1945 served with US Task Force 57 until the end of the war.

Went to Hong Kong to assist with its re-occupation.

Oct-1945 transferred permanently to the Royal Australian Navy.

Conversion to an anti-submarine frigate similar to type 15 took from Apr-1950 to 16-Jul-1953.

Paid off 16-Aug-1957 and sold for scrap 15-Feb-1963.

Won the Battle Honours: Arctic 1942-43 and Okinawa 1945.
