This the third ship to carry the name HMS Philomel was an 8-gun, brig.

Built at Devonport Dockyard, launched 28-Mar-1842, 95ft long, 30ft wide and of 360 tons builders measurement. Armed with 8 x 18pdrs.

Used as a coastguard watchvessel from 1857. Renamed WV.23 25-May-1863.

Foundered 1869 in the River Swale.

Sold Feb-1870 for salvage and broken up.
