HMS Kempenfelt (1943) DD  (3rd)

    
This the third ship to carry the name HMS Kempenfelt was the W Class, destroyer leader. As destroyer leader she had slightly reduced armament to allow the increased complement and working space needed to control a flotilla.

Built by John Brown on the Clyde, laid down, 24-Jun-1942, launched 08-May-1943, and commissioned 25-Oct-1943.

On commissioning formed part of the 27th Destroyer Flotilla, and went to the Mediterranean Jan-1944 for operations during the Anzio landings.

Back to the Channel Jun-1944 for the Normandy landings. Followed Aug-1944 with Arctic convoy duty. Then Nov-1944 to the Indian Ocean as part of the 27th Destroyer Flotilla. Moving to the British Pacific Fleet, Jan-1945 for the remainder of the war.

Transferred to the Yugoslav Navy Oct-1956 and renamed Kotor.

Withdrawn from service 1971.

Won the Battle Honours: Anzio 1944, Normandy 1944 and Okinawa 1945.
