This the third ship to carry the name HMS Essex was a third rate, 64-gun, ship-of-the-line.

Built at Wells & Stanton of Rotherhithe, launched 28-Aug-1760, 158ft long, 45ft wide and of 1,380 tons builders measurement.

Used for harbour service from Jan-1777.

Sold 22-Aug-1799.

Won the Battle Honours: Belle Isle 1761.
