HMS Duchess (1933) DD  (3rd)

This the third ship to carry the name HMS Duchess was a D Class, Destroyer.

Built at Portsmouth Dockyard, laid down Jun-1931, launched 19-Jul-1932, and commissioned 24-Jan-1933.

At the start of WW2, Duchess was on the China Station, with the other D Class destroyers. They were ordered to the Mediterranean.

Then Duchess in company with Diana and Dainty was ordered to home waters as escort to HMS Barham and the French  Dunkerque.

But on 12-Dec-1939 in the north channel off Mull of Kintyre HMS Barham, collided with Duchess which capsized, blew up and sank with heavy loss of life.
