This the first ship to carry the name HMS Danae was a fifth rate, 38-gun, ship.

Originally French, captured 28-Mar-1759 by HMS Southampton and HMS Melampe, 147ft 6in long, 38ft wide and of 941 tons builders measurement.

Broken up at Chatham by 14-Jun-1771.
