This the first ship to carry the name HMS Chester was a fourth rate, 48-gun, ship-of=the-line.

Built at Woolwich Dockyard, launched 21-Mar-1691, 125ft long, 34ft 6in wide and of 663 tons builders measurement.

Captured by the French 10-Oct-1707.

Won the Battle Honour: Barfleur 1692.
