Java Class (1815)
4th Rate 52-gun

This class of fourth rate sailing ships was a class of seven ships. Also classed as large 24 pounder frigates.

Designed by the 'Surveyors of the Navy', Peake, Tucker and Seppings.

The first, HMS Java was laid down in 1814 and launched 1815. The other six were built to slightly altered dimensions and launched between 1820 and 1843.

They were not built with any great priority and the final ship HMS Chichester took 16 years from when the keel was laid until she was launched.

All were hulked by 1966.
