V Class (1943) DD

Ordered on 01-Sep-1941 as the 8th Emergency Flotilla, they were a repeat of the previous U Class, ships, but were fitted for Arctic service. On completion they formed the 26th Destroyer Flotilla.

Valentine and Vixen were transferred to the Royal Canadian Navy before completion an renamed Algonquin and Sioux respectively. The others served with the Home Fleet, alternating Arctic convoy escort duties with screening offensive carrier raids along the Norwegian coast.

At the end of 1944 they were sent to the East Indies and took part on offensive raids along the Burmese and Malayan coasts. They did not enter the Pacific and returned to home waters at the end of the war.

They continued in service until the mid to late 1960's.
