| The two
ships of the Albacore Class (1909) were started as a speculative modified
update of Palmer's previous 30-knot type of turtleback destroyers. Part of the 1980-09 construction programme, they were virtually complete when bought by the Admiralty on 03-May-1909, as replacements for HMS Tiger and Gala which had been lost.
