| Description |
A squadron of 3 x 40-gun French frigates comprising Renommee,
Clorinde and Nereide, encountered a British squadron of 3 x
36-gun frigates plus 1 sloop, off Foul Point, North of Tamatave, Madagascar. Galatea was badly damaged but when the French commander - Commodore Roquefort, was killed, Renommee struck her colours. Nereide escaped into Tamatave but surrendered a few days later. Clorinde escaped and eventually reached Brest. |
