Description This night action took place off the Tunisian coast.

At about 0200 hrs on the 16th, the 14th Destroyer Flotilla intercepted an Italian convoy heading for Tripoli. The convoy comprised 5 merchant ships escorted by 1 large and 2 small destroyers.

Fire was opened at 0220 hrs and within minutes a high speed general melee occurred during which all Italian ships were hit and damaged, ablaze or sunk.

Mohawk then received 2 torpedo hits and sank.

All the Italian ships were sunk and the three remaining British destroyers returned to Malta.
