HMS Striker (1943) CVE  (1st)

    
This the first ship to carry the name HMS Striker was an Attacker Class, escort aircraft carrier.

Built by Western Pipe & Steel Co in San Francisco, laid down 15-Dec-1941, launched 07-May-1942 as USS Prince William CVE19. Completed, transferred to the Royal Navy under Lend-Lease and commissioned 29-Apr-1943.

Arrived in the UK Jul-1943 and began modification to RN standards at Chatham.

Allocated to Western Approaches Command 18-Oct-1943. Served in the Atlantic until Apr-1944 when she moved to Norwegian and Arctic waters.

Allocated to the British Pacific Fleet 31-Oct-1944 as a replenishment carrier and arrived at Sydney 07-Jan-1945. Continued with this work until the end of the war. Used for trooping duties Sep/Oct-1945 after which she returned to the UK.

Arrived in the Clyde to de-store 16-Dec-1945.  

Returned to US Navy 12-Feb-1946 at Norfolk Navy Yard

Sold 05-Jun-1946 for scrapping.

Won the Battle Honours: Atlantic 1943-44, Arctic 1944, Norway 1944 and Okinawa 1945.
